A MOM’S PRAYER FOR YOU: BE A BLESSING

There just aren’t enough hours in a day or days in a year to express how much I adore my mother. She is selfless; never seeking attention or recognition for all that she does behind the scenes. She is strong; no matter what trial is set before her, she has already determined in her heart that she will overcome. She is faithful; always seeking the Lord first in every situation and pursuing His will above all else. She is wise; understanding that the fear of God is the beginning of all wisdom. She is generous; always willing to give away to others with no desire for remuneration in return. And she is beautiful; allowing the beauty and love of Christ to radiate from the inside out. I can only hope and pray to be even half the woman and mother that she has been for me.

So in honor of Mother’s Day this year, I asked my mom, Grace, to author her very own post for my blog! In perfect alignment with her character, she chose to write out the prayer of her heart over her children interspersed with life lessons she has learned along the way. Whether you are young and single, a mom, mother-figure, or a momma soon-to-be, I hope you’ll claim these words as if they were being spoken over you!

Thank you Mom for leaving your legacy on my blog ♥︎

A Mothers Prayer for You - Be A Blessing

A letter to my children:

I have prayed that you would be a person who reads God’s word, studies God’s word, memorizes God’s word, speaks God’s word, prays God’s word, and shares God’s word. Fill yourself every day with who God says you are and don’t entertain anything that does not align with who God says you are. Remember short devotions and listening to messages are good but study His Word for yourself so that you may be able to discern the truth. (It’s the difference between reading the book yourself and reading the cliff notes.) There are many in depth bible studies available so sign up, show up (do the homework), speak up, and LIVE UP. Be a blessing.

I have prayed that you will take care of your family: Lavish one another with the gift of time. Send each other cards and gifts, greet each other with hugs and kisses like it may be the last time, create opportunities to serve each other and constantly affirm one another with your words and actions. Believe in them and defend them; extend this to their spouse and their children. Be devoted to one another. Imagine there is a reward to be the best relative and work to achieve that title. Show up for every opportunity to celebrate. Be a blessing.

God’s ten commandments can be simplified into Love God and Love Others. The first four are about how to serve God and the last six are about how to serve people.

I have prayed that you would marry a true disciple. I have prayed for this person and I know you will be the answer to that family’s prayer for their child as well. Who you choose will have a great impact on your life so use wisdom and discernment. You will not only marry this person but their family so be sure they cherish you. Will you honor and respect them? Look closely and scrutinize if you want their traits to be passed to your children. Never settle. Once you marry, be completely devoted; serve, praise, admire, esteem, venerate in word and deed toward your spouse. Remember a mantle of committed marriage has been passed on to you from your ancestors. Protect your marriage. Be a blessing.

I have prayed that God would send you older people who can speak into your life. Select someone you admire and schedule time to sit at their feet and ask questions. Be willing to learn and to let them tell you their life story. Learn from their journey; what worked, what didn’t work, disappointments, successes. This will help you see the future. This is applicable for your career, your marriage, parenting, or anything else that is important to you. Be a blessing.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Psalm 32: 8

I have prayed that God would send you true friends; people of integrity to share your life with and who share your values. Pour into them and let them pour into you. Give them permission to speak into your life and challenge you. May you lean on each other for strength and support. May your celebrations be all the greater because they are for you and not against you.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Proverbs 27: 17

I have prayed that God would give you eyes to see someone who needs you to speak into their life. Look around and you will see there is someone who needs you. Seek that person and meet with them consistently to ask about their journey and provide your encouragement, wisdom, and support. By doing this, you are investing in yourself by investing in others. Be a good example and be a blessing.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.

1 Timothy 4: 12

I have prayed you would remember you are already loved to the uttermost. There is nothing you can do to make God love you any more or make Him love you any less. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. There is nothing you cannot do. Nothing you cannot achieve. Nothing you cannot overcome. You are called. You are chosen. You are already accepted. You are highly favored. You are blessed.

I have prayed that it would be said of you, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25: 21

So just think… If a mother can love you so strongly to pray all of these good things over you, how much more does God love you and desire for His GOOD plans to be fulfilled in your life?

Thank you for reading this post by my beautiful mother. Happy Mother’s Day! Be a blessing
